Today, 10th of January 2011, HP updated the product description of all its server products removing Oracle Enterprise Linux from the supported OS list. In the change log there is only the message “Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) was removed from OS Support“.
The change seemed to be executed in a hurry or in a find-replace fashion, for example the ProLiant BL465c G7 lists under OS support: ”Supports Windows, RHEL, SLES, VMware,, Citrix XenServer”.
I am wondering what this message means (as I wasn’t able to find an official statement so far) and what will happen to customers that already bought the products to run OEL on them based on HP’s prior assurance that the OS is supported?
On the other hand Oracle still lists 47 HP products as “Validated Configurations” to run OEL.
