Burmese Days
A very good book that gives some insight in the life of the expats in the old British empire. Besides being an excellent read I found it most interesting to observe the characters and their behaviors.
As it so happens I currently live and work in a country heavily dominated by the British and found it most interesting to find some of Orwell's characters in the present day life. While some may find it hard to accept, little has changed since this book was written. The same archetypes, the same behaviors, the same social division is still visible in the present day 'colonies'.
This book is recommended to both expats and locals at least as a guide against hypocrisy.
